Homework#10 Thursday "Don't Read with Your Eyes"

In the section "Don't Read with Your Eyes" Foster is suggesting that to fully understand the text you have to put yourself in the characters position especially if it is set during a different time period or setting such as a war zone in Iraq. An example would be the book "Kite Runner" in the book when the Taliban arrive later in the book the characters are happy and are even taking pictures with them because they had stopped fighting in their town and was just happy it was peaceful and that a child could play outside without getting a limb blown off. This could throw the reader off and cause them to take the main character(s) as the protagonist instead of the good guy because of prior historical knowledge. This could also be because of bias and prior context as well as the fact that the reader doesn’t find out until later that the Taliban were actually bad guys and took over the town killing the main characters best friend.
